Tour Overview
Explore the Central Texas Coast, from Corpus Christi to Rockport-Fulton, winter home of the endangered Whooping Crane. Each year, these iconic birds migrate from Canada to the marshes of Aransas Bay, joined by a rich diversity of wintering waterfowl and South Texas specialties like Green Jay, Great Kiskadee, Long-billed Thrasher, and Olive Sparrow.
Highlights include a 3-hour boat tour in Aransas National Wildlife Refuge for close views of Whooping Cranes and other coastal birds, plus visits to top birding sites such as Goose Island State Park, Rockport-Tule Creek Nature Preserve, Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, and Mustang Island where we search for the Aplomado Falcon.
We will also explore inland hotspots like Hazel Bazemore County Park and Pollywog Pond, known for Rio Grande Valley species, before heading south to the diverse habitats of Kingsville and Baffin Bay, home to raptors, shorebirds, and wintering ducks - including: Harris's Hawk, Crested Caracara, White-tailed Hawk, and White-tailed Kite.
This flexible itinerary is designed to maximize bird sightings while offering comfortable lodging, great food, and relaxed travel between locations.
