OUR STORY
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Birding Texas & Beyond was born out of a love for birds, travel, and the joy of discovery.
What started as weekend tours led by Oscar Carmona in the Rio Grande Valley in the 1990's, has now grown into a full-service company offering tours across Texas and "Beyond". Oscar became hooked on birds at an early age and brings over 35 years of birding experience, including over 20 years as a professional birding guide – leading tours throughout Mexico, Texas, and the Southwest.
Today, Oscar and his wife, Ariel, continue to shape Birding Texas & Beyond together, building on those early beginnings while expanding the company's reach to new destinations and experiences.

Our goal is simple.
To create memorable birding experiences that introduce people to the birds, places, and cultures that make each destination unique.
Our tours highlight the distinctive birds, habitats, wildlife, and cultures of the destinations we explore. Through travel, we hope our guests come away with a deeper appreciation not only for the birds and habitats they encounter, but also for the communities, and local efforts that help protect them.

At the heart of Birding Texas & Beyond is our commitment to thoughtful and respectful travel. We design tours with intention; recognizing that while many destinations offer something special throughout the year, not every season is right for group travel, and not every place benefits from repeated departures.
We carefully consider the timing, routes, and group size of every itinerary. Our focus is quality over quantity: small‑group journeys designed around exceptional birding while respecting the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make each destination unique.
