OUR STORY

Birding Texas and Beyond was born out of a passion for birds, travel, and the joy of discovery.

 

What started as weekend tours led by Oscar Carmona in the Rio Grande Valley in 1997, has now grown into a full-service company offering tours across Texas and "Beyond".  Oscar became hooked on birds at an early age and brings over 35 years of birding experience, including over 20 years as a professional birding guide – leading tours throughout Mexico, Texas, and the Southwest.

 

Today, Oscar and his wife, Ariel, continue to shape their company around their shared commitment to creating exceptional birding experiences and inspiring a deeper appreciation of the natural world.

Our tours highlights the distinctive birds, habitats, wildlife, and local cultures of the destinations we explore. ​ Our team of expert guides bring deep knowledge of birds and natural history to every tour, creating engaging experiences for birders of all skill levels. We also partner with knowledgeable local guides - supporting local economies  while promoting the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation through responsible nature tourism.

We design tours with intention; recognizing that while many destinations offer something special throughout the year, not every season is right for group travel, and not every place benefits from repeated departures.

 

We carefully consider the timing, routes, and group size of every itinerary. Our focus is quality over quantity: small‑group journeys designed around exceptional birding while respecting the landscapes, wildlife, and communities that make each destination unique.
