Tour Overview

East Ecuador is where the Andes descend toward the vast Amazon Basin, creating one of the most biodiverse birding corridors on Earth. This journey follows that remarkable transition — from misty cloud forests and moss-draped ridgelines through lush foothill forests to the tropical lowlands of the Napo River.

With each change in elevation comes a new community of birds. We search for jewel-toned tanagers, colorful toucanets, hummingbirds, manakins, canopy cotingas, and an extraordinary variety of parrots, parakeets, amazons, and macaws — bringing together the distinctive birdlife of both the eastern Andes and the Amazon.

Along the way, we stay at comfortable lodges carefully positioned for excellent birding, with access to forest trails, feeders, canopy viewing areas, and other productive habitats. The thoughtfully paced itinerary allows time to enjoy each region while experiencing the dramatic changes in landscape, climate, and birdlife as we descend the eastern slope.
