Tour Overview

Costa Rica’s Grand Birding Circuit is a journey through some of the country’s most productive and diverse ecosystems — from the humid Caribbean lowlands and the forested foothills of Arenal Volcano to Pacific mangroves and the cool highlands of the Talamanca Mountains.

Along the way, we explore tropical rainforest, canopy reserves, volcanic foothills, coastal wetlands, mangroves, and montane forest in search of Costa Rica’s remarkable birdlife. Toucans, parrots, antbirds, manakins, hummingbirds, Scarlet Macaws, and a variety of regional specialties are among the many possibilities.

The journey concludes in the Talamanca Highlands, where moss-covered oak forests and mountain valleys provide opportunities for high-elevation species, including the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal.

With a thoughtfully paced itinerary, diverse habitats, and excellent opportunities for both birding and photography, this tour offers a rewarding introduction to the extraordinary biodiversity of Costa Rica.
